Barbara J. Keefer was born in South Charleston, West Virginia in 1955. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree   in Criminal Justice from Marshall University,   in Huntington, West Virginia in 1977 and   her J.D. from West Virginia University
College of Law in 1980. She began her
legal career at Masters & Taylor, L.C., a plaintiff’s firm located in Charleston, West Virginia. She has represented defendants, insurance companies and agents with two other defense firms in Charleston, West Virginia –Goodwin & Goodwin, LLP and MacCorkle, Lavender & Sweeney, PLLC before joining Schuda & Associates in 2010. She was employed in-house
for USF&G Insurance as the Managing Attorney of its Trial Division and also at Nationwide Insurance Company as a
Claims Manager, Claims Legal Counsel and Managing Claims Counsel. Ms. Keefer’s practice areas include coverage; extra-contractual matters, Unfair Trade Practice claims, agent
errors & omissions, administrative law before the West
Virginia Insurance Commission as well as personal injury,
toxic torts, construction matters, trucking cases,
employment law, deliberate intent, products liability, and premises liability. She is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a trained mediator and was
selected for inclusion in 2009 West Virginia Super Lawyers.
